Bug auditing is not a game or a crime. It is systematic process of analyzing digital platforms for weaknesses before malicious actors can exploit them. Workflow is simple in principle but complex in practice: first comes reconnaissance, where domains, subdomains, and infrastructure are mapped. Then enumeration follows, testing open ports, APIs, DNS records, and login endpoints. Once potential weaknesses are identified, we move into exploitation testing, carefully probing whether an SQL injection, cross-site scripting, or privilege escalation is possible. Every step is documented with screenshots, logs, and payloads so that findings can be presented clearly. Finally, audit ends with reporting, where risks are explained and remediation steps are proposed. This is what we did professionally, transparently, and with no malicious intent.
Vulnerabilities we found were not minor issues. They were gaping holes in digital armor of a government platform. We discovered exposed administrative panels that were accessible without proper authentication. We found misconfigured APIs leaking sensitive user data. Instead of dialogue, we faced denial. Instead of collaboration, we faced retaliation.
Why do governments resist? From our perspective, three forces often collide. Ego plays a role: admitting a vulnerability feels like admitting incompetence. Bureaucracy adds another layer, slowing down acknowledgment and turning technical reports into political headaches. Finally, fear of exposure drives silence: if they admit to a bug, they worry their reputation will crumble. But here lies irony: by ignoring responsible hackers, they make themselves more vulnerable to real criminals. Attackers who lurk in shadows don’t submit reports. They exploit silently, and when they strike, damage is catastrophic.
Hidden cost of blacklisting ethical hackers is profound. First, it drives talent away. Skilled researchers leave country or stop participating, creating a brain drain. Second, it erodes trust in system. Future researchers will remain silent rather than report flaws, fearing retaliation. Third, unpatched vulnerabilities become open playgrounds for malicious actors. And in end, it is not governments that suffer most it is ordinary citizens, whose personal data remains exposed. Silencing messenger never fixes message.
For us, emotional toll was heavy. We felt anger at being treated as criminals for simply doing our jobs.
